Exterior/Auto Magnet Preparation, Use and Care
Q. do vehicles need special preparation before applying safemag / ultra-mag signs?
A. Simple, both the vehicles surface and the brown magnetic side of the sign should be clean and dry. The vehicle should be waxed prior to applying.
Q. What is the best way to apply a magnetic sign?
A. Let one edge of the sign contact the vehicle in the desired position. Then let the magnetic power do the work as it puts the sign into place from the edge where you started to the edge of the opposite. If the sign is not exactly where you want it, peel it off, reposition the starting edge and repeat. Make sure that the entire surface of sign is smoothly against the vehicle with no air pockets underneath. In winter the temperature of the sign should be about 50 degrees f during installation, but the temperature of the vehicle surface does not matter.
Q. Do any surfaces present problems?
A. Care should be taken with wood grain paneling and metalllic finishes. Such surfaces should be checked weekly for the first 90 days of use. A generous waxing of both the surface where the sign will be placed and the back of the sign itself will help prevent damage.
Q. What sign maintenance is recommended?
A. Remove the sign weekly and wipe dry both the magnetic side and the surface of the vehicle. During warmer humid weather it is recommended to remove the sign every three to four days. This keeps moisture from collecting, which can potentially damage a vehicleís surface. Simply wash it with warm water and mild detergent. Remove sign after snowfall and rain ñ wipe dry.
Q. What special precautions must be taken storing signs?
A. Avoid wrinkling by storing in a 3 inch diameter roll with the printed side of the sign pointed to the outside of the roll, or store the sign flat. Since safemag / ultra-mag is permanently magnetic, you need not protect against magnetic destruction. Anything else is just common sense ñ like donít put heavy things on or against signs in storage.
Q. Any other tips and suggestions?
A. Corner rounding prevents dog-eared-corners. Custom shapes should utilize rounded contours rather than sharp angles for best results.
There is no warranty expressed or implied against loss of signs or damage to vehicle surfaces, as factory has no control over how signs are cared for, altered, stored, and/or used, or the surface to which the signs are applied.
